My motto in life is that I want to try everything at least once. Since my dx in 1997 at the age of 34, I have run a full marathon, gone scuba diving, rock climbing, sky diving, taken up cycling and traveling, eating organic, reading, have celebrated family and friends, and included laughter wherever possible. For six years now, I have thought at least once during the day that it sure is good to be alive. I am a single mother of 3 - Missy 19, Justin 17, and Chad 14 (year 2003) and work as a computer programmer at Indiana University Hospital. Number one goal in my life is to one day see my 3 adult children as happy, respectable individuals that I would choose as friends were I to meet them on the street. They are well on their way, and I am very lucky to have each of them in my life.

Cancer Overview:

General Cancer Type: Uterine

Specific Cancer Type:

Treatment Summary:
Fortunately, my cancer was caught at an early stage. I felt sick, tired all the time, and became somewhat of a frequent flier at my doctor's office. I was put on prozac (fatigue is a symptom of depression) and oral contraceptives to snap my hormones in line. I went through a number of exams, a D&C, and 2 biopsies before the monster was detected. This was over about a 6-month period. All the while, I kept telling my doctor I felt I had cancer. All the while, my doc kept wanting to up my antidepressants. My diagnosis actually came as a relief - the wait was over and the fight could begin. Weird. To this day, my doctor doesn't understand how I knew, nor do I. We're both glad I was persistant. The cancer had not spread, and surgery was all that was required to kill the beast.
