I am married and have 2 children and two grandsons.I am self employed,designing and manufacturing electical components. I also enjoy restoring old Corvettes.I love sports and playing with my grandsons. I participated in triathalons for about 8 years, during the eighties and early nineties, but now I only cycle. I was very happy and excited to learn of this group shortly after I was diagnosed.

General Cancer Type: Kidney cancer

Specific Cancer Type: Renal cell carcinoma

Treatment Summary:
I had a CT scan taken in March 2009 looking into a possible gallbladder problem. The gallbladder was OK but a 5.5 cm mass was found in my right kidney.I had a simple nephrectomy on 03/31/09, that confirmed that I had renal cell carcinoma. It was a stage 3 tumor due to microinvasion of the renal vein. Fortunately it was a grade 2 which is not as aggresive as grade 3 or 4.
There is no adjuvant therapy for RCC, other than clinical trials, so now I watch and wait, getting scanned every six months for about the next four years.
