Cancer Overview:

General Cancer Type: Thyroid

Specific Cancer Type: Pappilary

Treatment Summary:
I found a lump on my neck in 11/98. I went to an E/N/T Dr. I was mis-diagnosed (thyroid updake scan was 'warm' - no chance of cancer per the e/n/t doc). It was only my (thankfully)bull headed general Dr who insisted I have an endocrinologist review the report that saved me. The Endo said it wasn't needed but I was welcome to have a FNA (fine needle aspiration). This was 2/99. The result was cancer. I had the thyroid removed 5/10/99 and had a major follow up test in 10/99. It was clear. Lucky for me, no chemo. If the follow up test had been negative, I would've had to receive a massive dose of radiation. However, I need to take thyroid medicine every day for the rest of my life and have blood tests every 6-12 months. They say it's the best kind of cancer to get-but no cancer is fun.
