Steve Bartolucci
Thousand Oaks, California

Steve is a mild-mannered Operations Manager for a plastics processing company by day, and a husband to Jeanne and father to Daniel and Paolina. He began his cancer journey in May of 2000, when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Chemotherapy "de-bulked" the 1-litre tumor that was growing in his upper abdomen, and was the kick in the pants he needed to reset his goals and priorities. His treatment began late in June of 2000, and as he spent the Fourth of July weekend coming to grips with his first round of chemo, he read Lance's first book, "It's Not About The Bike." At the same time, he flipped through the TV channels and discovered the Tour de France on OLN, and nothing has been the same since. Steve was always a recreational bicycle rider, but the book, and Lance's TdF triumphs pushed him off the couch and on the road, never looking back. Cycling through treatment, and then two relapses, Steve has completed around ten Century rides, and a handful of Metric Centuries (as of 1/1/05). He got the fundraising bug when the Tour of Hope launched in 2003, and participated in the Peloton Project for 2004, reaching the Polka-Dot jersey level. The current plan is to keep riding, and participate in a vaccine clinical trial at UCLA in 2005. In his other life, Steve is a part-time "motor journalist," contributing to various BMW-related publications. This is a result of his passion for european sports cars and sport-touring motorcycles. He gets some "track time" each year, polishing his driving and riding skills. Also, an avid hiker, Steve can be found tromping around the Sierra Nevada Mountains in summer. Winter sport means skiing, and monthly trips to the slopes of Mammoth Mountain, CA. Trying to LiveSTRONG at all moments, and hoping to Ride To Live as often as possible!!
