Accountant/CPA for a large manufacturing company. Married to Amy with one child (Meredith). I was a runner prior to getting cancer, but am no longer physically able to run after the surgeries to my leg. The good news is that I have taken up cycling and love it!

I was diagnosed with cancer about 3 weeks after the birth of our first child. Since the cancer type was rare, no local treatement options existed so I had to travel 250 miles away to the University of Virginia. The staff was great at the UVA Cancer Center and I certainly credit their hard work with the fact that I still have my left
leg.

Cancer Overview:

General Cancer Type: Bone

Specific Cancer Type: Osteosarcoma

Treatment Summary:
Six Rounds of adriamycin/cisplatin and limb sparing surgery, physical therapy. Two small surgeries later to remove hardware and do additional bone grafting. The first three rounds of chemo where done while I was in traction. My leg was so weak at the tumor site, that the bone fractured so I spent over 2 months in traction while taking pre-op chemo. Limb-sparing surgery was done and I lost around 66% of my left quad muscles along with part of the femur bone that was replaced with a donor bone. After limb-sparing surgery, another 3 rounds of chemo were ordered. I still have frequent checkups, but have been cancer free for 3 years now!
