Cancer Overview:
General Cancer Type: Bladder
Specific Cancer Type: Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Bladder
Treatment Summary:
Thanksgiving morning, 2002, presented with gross hematuria (blood in urine). Contacted urologist, who ordered IVP x-ray of bladder and kidneys. Test showed 2.5 cm filling defect in bladder. Three days later (12/9/02), I underwent a cystoscopy in my doctor's office which verified that the object was in fact a tumor.
Surgery to remove the tumor took place on 12/19. Pathology determined that the tumor was malignant (as expected - almost all bladder tumors are), but had been contained in the outer lining. No further treatment has been necessary. Prognosis is very good, with very high cure rates of superficial (non-invasive) bladder cancer. Intitial quarterly cystoscopy evaluations were moved out after 1 year to every 6-months and now to yearly.
